In less than ten minutes you are in the attractive seaside town of Wynyard with it's beautiful parks, two golf courses, great walking tracks, fine restaurants (try Cafe Ricardo for great Italian) or visit Winnie the seal down by the Wynyard Jetty.
Wynyard is also the location of the Burnie Airport (yes, we think that's odd too but that's where it is) which has multiple daily flights to Melbourne and King Island. The Airport is serviced by Qantas Link and REX. Several car rental companies also operate from the Airport.
The Wynyard Visitor Information Centre (64424143) in Goldie Street can help with all your touring questions. |

Fairy Penguin Tour
With Wynyard Little Penguin Tours you will see little penguins up close in their natural environment.
Watch the little penguins coming ashore in large numbers each evening, and view them interacting with each other and feeding their chicks.
Your guide will provide a personalised and detailed account of their habits, behaviour and lifestyle.
Tours operate between December and March. They are not suitable for the elderly or children under six years.
Bookings are essential as numbers are limited.
Warm dark clothes are essential. Binoculars can be very useful, but torches and cameras with flashes are prohibited as they can harm the penguins.

Dismal Swamp (1 1/2 hrs)
This sink hole was created over time with the dolomite slab dissolving in the wet area. Four boardwalks on the swamp floor enable easy access to swamp life while keeping your feet dry.
Visitors are able to stroll down the 40m to the floor, take a gentle buggy ride or take a 110m slide to discover the delights of swamp fertility. Two kilometres of meandering pathways lead to a maze. Decaying logs provide a nursery for baby blackwood trees and tiny burrowing crayfish are evident in their important role in the survival of the area. |

Leven Canyon (1 1/2 hrs)
There is a hidden valley in North-Western Tasmania that nature has chosen to smile upon... a valley so rich, so fertile that it grows grapes for wine and hops for beer, where pristine spring waters are bottled for their purity, and the Leven River flows freely all the way to the sea. A place where even the ground under the ground reveals its age-old treasures in spectacular caves.
A valley bounded by ancient mountains, producing the dramatic spectacle of the Leven Canyon, where waters cascade from mountain tops, and yet offer the tranquility of a roadside picnic spot. |
