In less than ten minutes you are in the attractive seaside town of Wynyard with it's beautiful parks, two golf courses, great walking tracks, fine restaurants (try Cafe Ricardo for great Italian) or visit Winnie the seal down by the Wynyard Jetty.
Take some time out one evening to see little penguins in their natural habitat (call Keith on 0417153244 for details).
Wynyard is also the location of the Burnie Airport (yes, we think that's odd too but that's where it is) which has multiple daily flights to Melbourne and King Island. The Airport is serviced by Qantas Link and REX. Several car rental companies also operate from the Airport.
The Wynyard Visitor Information Centre (64424143) in Goldie Street can help with all your touring questions. |

Could we suggest a beautiful drive to the Far North West Coast to enjoy a very pleasurable day trip on the Arthur River Boat Cruise, on board the restored "MS George Robinson", including a delicious barbecue lunch in the forest. On the way `home', call into the historic village of Stanley and take the chairlift to the top of the Nut and experience the spectacular views.
An ideal day trip is to Cradle Mountain. Take a walk on the boardwalk around Dove Lake, through the Ballroom Forest and have a picnic lunch before climbing to the top of Marian's Lookout and see the stunning views of Crater Lake and Dove Lake below.
Another delightful day trip is along the coast through the North West's rich farmland to experience the majestic underground limestone caves at Gunns Plains, and on to the Leven Canyon to view the canyon 350 metres below. Or you may prefer to head for Sheffield and view the dozens of unique murals in this quaint country town in the foothills of imposing Mount Roland.
